Discovery for the
whole family
Bobbi Jo Gaetz
Registered Psychologist
I am passionate about supporting children and families in discovering how to be their best through building relationships, understanding, and skills. I strive to empower others so that they can continue to manage lifeβs challenges beyond their work with me. I understand that when parents are seeking services, they are concerned about their child/adolescent and are seeking guidance through respect.
I have been a practicing psychologist in Alberta since 1999. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I was a teacher with a specialization in special education. My final teaching job was within a specialized public school program for students with learning disabilities. While working as a teacher, I felt a strong desire to continue building my knowledge in supporting children and youth and completed graduate studies in Applied Psychology at the University of Calgary.
I have worked in numerous areas in roles as a clinician and in managing clinical services in the non-profit sector, specialized school programs, and health services. In these roles, I have provided consultation, assessment, diagnoses, and intervention for a variety of developmental, learning, and mental health issues. I have worked alongside family physicians to assist them with assessment, identification, and treatment of mental health issues in children and adolescents. Working within multidisciplinary teams of psychiatry, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy has allowed me to gain knowledge from these various professionals as well. In addition, teaching at the graduate level at the University of Calgary provided me the opportunity to share my passion and knowledge with those beginning in the profession. I find that teaching and providing supervision to provisionally registered psychologists supports not only the growth and development of others, but my own as well.
I use a number of therapy modalities and theories to inform my practice including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Emotional Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Family Systems Theory.
